We house three select youth Performance Groups, and one professional Contemporary Dance Company at Southern Oregon Dance Center.
Our youth competition/performance groups include: Kids Company (3rd-5th grades) , Intermediate Production (6th – 9th grades) and Advanced Production (9th -12th grades). Dancers are selected via Audition-only, which are typically held during the first or second weekend in June (for placement in the upcoming season of August-June). Each group trains with us on an assigned schedule of classes and in all genres. They also get to study with professional Guest Master Teachers and Choreographers throughout the year, attend competitions, conventions, and other performance/enrichment events as our young dance ambassadors for the studio. Notably, our Advanced Production group has historically garnered many Regional and National awards for their dance excellence in venues and competition events across the West and East coasts. They have appeared in Dance Magazines, other print, in commercials and on stages in Seattle, Portland, Disneyland, Disney World, and across Austria, Europe as booked guest youth artists representing the United States at the Tanzsommer National Dance Festival four separate times!
We have a Student Assistant/Teacher training program at the studio for our older Production dancers, via application. This program promotes and encourages committed dancers to extend their role-model status and dance expertise via “on the job training” by assisting Staff in the dance classroom. After interning as an assistant for the required time, dancers older than 16 may be considered for open substitute and/or paid student teaching positions. Our goal is always to help our dancers rise to new challenges and to be encouraged and rewarded for their consistent dedication and great attitude.
